Let me share some advice for this Mother’s Day!
First of all, please be conscious this Mother’s Day.
Of course, celebrate your mother, grandmother, the mother of your children, etc. Also, think of those who have lost their mother; those who have lost a baby; those fighting infertility; those waiting through the adoption process; those that have buried a child. Realize that Mother’s Day is not an easy, joyous holiday for everyone.
Address it–call up your friend who lost their mom this year–tell her that you are thinking of her today, and let her reminisce about her mom with you. Give an extra tight squeeze to that friend of yours who adores your children and aches for her own. Thank her for loving your kids. Don’t say “your day will come”, or “we’ll be celebrating you next year”–though your intentions are good, it is not helpful! Sit with the mother that has suffered loss, and hold her hand. There may not be any words to comfort her on this day, and that is OK. Just be present, let her know that you are there for her.
(In addition, there are women out there who do not want children–don’t assume they do, or judge them for their choice).
OK, the hard and real stuff is out of the way!
Now onto what to get your mom, grandma, wife, baby-momma, aunt, or best friend for this holiday. You could go the easy route with flowers, or the messy route with your kid’s finger paintings. Or, you could get her a gift card for some cute and comfy clothes! Women of all ages love LuLaRoe, and you know she deserves to treat herself!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mommas out there, and to those of you hurting and pasting on a fake smile, you are not alone. Much love to you all.
