In 2016, I started an online boutique. I took over our extra bedroom for my inventory, and worked on the business side of things from my kitchen island. Once I started doing graphics, editing, and this blog, I needed more of an office space than the few feet of our kitchen island. (Also, I appreciate having a door I can close and forget about work when I’m not working!) Around the time I quit my “day” job, my boutique got a mini-makeover to be my office. Since then, I have closed my boutique, and our extra bedroom is becoming my full time office.
These are my must-haves for my home office.
First of all, I gotta have good jams to feel creative!
I recently upgraded from a Bluetooth speaker to an Amazon Echo. I’m loving it–the sound quality is amazing! Plus, I love being able to say “Alexa, play Lady Gaga” while I’m busy doing other things!
We have Amazon Music Unlimited, which allows us to listen to several devices at the same time–with a regular Amazon Prime subscription, you can listen to one device at a time. Also, if you don’t have a Prime subscription, you need it! Two day shipping, plus access to lots of digital media!
I also have a small TV in my office, with an Amazon Fire Stick. I watch a lot of Netflix, Amazon Prime shows and movies, and I can use it to stream music as well. Some of my graphics work can be tedious, soI like to watch TV while I do it (I’m a HUGE New Girl fan, and that is usually what’s playing!).
I also need to be surrounded by things I find inspiring visually.
A big part of why I am working at home is for the flexibility, because my husband and I love to travel! I have a gallery wall of quotes and inspirations that give me that extra push when I need it! I think I may need to add this print to it! It’s gorgeous, and it sums up my why perfectly!
I crawled around on the floor for the first few weeks I was moved into my office, plugging and unplugging my laptop and phone charger. Now I have this desktop surge protector, which has saved my back! I love that it has both USB and traditional plugs on it. Both of my printers, my laptop, my phone, and my Kindle can be plugged in at the same time if needed.
Curious about what I do in my office all day? Follow me on Instagram for behind the scenes looks!
(And I’ll be honest, sometimes I’m just dancing or watching TV!)
